Michael Kavanagh

Michael Kavanagh

CEO 

Role: As CEO of the Compliance Institute, Michael is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the organisation as well as managing its overall operations.

Background: Michael is a Board member and Chair of the audit committee of Carmichael, vice chair of the Sport Ireland/FAI Governance Oversight Group, a council member and Chair of the Education Committee of CPA Ireland, a member of the CRSC Consultative Working Group for ESMA, and a member of the Irish committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales.

Michael’s previous roles included CEO of IAASA (The Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority), Director of DPP with KPMG Ireland, Technical Director at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, lecturer in DBS, examiner, moderator, solution writer for the professional examinations of various accountancy bodies and the Irish Observer at the then Corporate Reporting Council of the FRC which produced the accounting standards for use in the UK and Ireland.

Dermot Kennedy

Head of Operations 

Role: As Head of Operations, Dermot is responsible for the day-to-day management of the operating units of the association which consist of Membership Services, Professional Development and Communications. Dermot also plays a key role in ensuring the continued quality and relevance of the Compliance Institute’s Education programmes.

Background: Dermot is an accomplished Director with significant experience in Compliance, Risk and Fraud, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Services management, primarily in the Information Technology and Fintech areas.

He has worked for multinational companies including Amazon, Dell, and Sanmina, and most recently served as CS Director Ireland at Remitly, leading the launch of Remitly’s European operation in Cork, growing the site to 270 team members in just 2 years while ensuring that the activities of REL’s align with regulatory requirements, compliance, local laws, and business requirements.

Dermot is passionate about developing highly scalable standards, policies, procedures, repeatable processes, and methodologies to enable best practices to be standardized across organizations. He holds a Masters in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Fintech, Risk and Compliance, and Six Sigma Black (American Society of Quality) qualification.

Faith O'Sullivan

Operations Manager

Role: As Operations Manager, Faith is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the operational and administration aspects of the Institute.

Background: Faith joined the Compliance Institute in October 2022. With a background in the Healthcare industry, most recently Faith worked in implementing quality, safety and risk control protocols for a large primary care organisation.

Faith has over 13 years’ experience in operations; across customer service, IT, people management, project management, recruitment and quality, safety and risk. Faith has previously worked in Centric Health and Locumotion.

Sinead Stoneham

Office Administrator & Membership Services Executive

Role: As Office Administrator and Membership Services Executive, Sinead provides assistance to Compliance Institute members, helping them with their membership renewals, designations, education queries and invoicing.

Background: Sinead joined the Compliance Institute's executive as Office Administrator in 2018 and recently took up the role of Office Administrator and Member Services Executive.

Events & Communications Coordinator

Role:  As Events & Communications Coordinator, Fiona takes charge of the Institute’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme as well as coordinating, and executing various events, managing communication efforts to enhance Compliance Institute's visibility and engagement.

Background: Fiona joined the Compliance Institute in October 2021. Fiona has a proven track record in communications, operations, customer service, people management across various sectors such as Banking, Retail and Construction.
