Programme Overview

This Certified Sustainability Regulatory Reporting program will provide attendees with an overview of sustainability, current and future regulatory reporting requirements and expectations.

 

Who should attend: Those in Governance Roles including Directors, and Compliance and Audit professionals.

Lecturers

Eilis Griffin,Independent Compliance and Governance Advisor

Eilís works with a variety of clients, primarily in Financial Services, providing Consultancy, Lecturing and Coaching. Eilís has extensive experience and expertise in regulatory compliance, governance (including ESG principles and sustainable finance) and financial crime compliance. Eilís is Vice-Chair of the Compliance Institute’s Sustainability Working Group.

Lorraine Sammon, Audit Partner, KPMG Cork

As a resident Partner in the ESG Reporting & Assurance team in KPMG Ireland, Lorraine has worked with a diverse range of public and private clients including those in the Manufacturing, Retail, Food & Agri and Technology and Construction industries. Lorraine has over 15-years’ experience of financial statement audit and ESG assurance engagements.

Lorraine works with clients preparing for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and general ESG reporting readiness assessments. She also advises clients on current and future ESG reporting standards relevant to their business and sector.

Sarah Moran, Director at KPMG Sustainable Futures

Sarah trained in KPMG’s global centre of excellence for climate risk in the UK and now leads out Sustainable Finance and Climate Risk service lines within KPMG Ireland.

Sarah has deep technical knowledge in the area of EU Sustainable Finance legislation and leads out on EU Taxonomy services across the Irish firm. She has delivered numerous EU Taxonomy mandates across a diverse range of corporates and insurers across the energy, aviation and finance sectors.

Sarah worked with the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) to develop the approach for the Irish insurance industry to meet its guidance for (re) insurer undertakings on climate change risk.

Sarah has conducted CSRD Sandbox events for all sectors of the Irish market including real economy, banks, insurers and asset managers to support industry readiness on the topic. 

Sarah lectures with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI), the Compliance Institute, the Insurance Institute and to c-suite with UCD Smurfit Business School in the area of Sustainable Finance, ESG Reporting and Climate Risk.

Déirdre Finn, Director, Risk & Regulatory Consulting

As a Director within Regulatory and Risk Consulting in KPMG Ireland, Déirdre possesses deep sectoral knowledge on prudential risk and regulation. With over 15 years of Regulatory and Financial Market experience, Déirdre joined KPMG in 2022 from the Central Bank of Ireland where she was the Supervision Lead and Local Coordinator for the largest and most complex Irish SSM credit institution.

 

 

Déirdre was also involved in the authorisation of banking licences for credit institutions. Déirdre has a significant depth of knowledge of prudential regulation, regulatory frameworks, governance systems, and macroeconomics and financial markets.

Thomas Ball, Director, Sustainable Futures | Nature, Biodiversity and Land Use Lead, KPMG 

Thomas is a scientist with 20 years experience in corporate biodiversity, sustainability strategy, communications, policy and advocacy.

He leads the KPMG Nature, Biodiversity and Land Use specialist area in the Sustainable Futures team. Prior to KPMG he was Head of Business Advocacy at WWF (The World Wide Fund for Nature) where he led a technical team working with global financial institutions and real economy businesses to drive the transition to a net zero and nature positive economy. Alongside this he was a core technical member of the UK Government’s Transition Plan Taskforce – developing a gold standard for integrated corporate transition planning.

Thomas works with a diverse range of public and private sector clients in Ireland and globally, and is leading on projects on Science Based Targets for Climate, Nature and Land Use, Circular Economy standards, agri-food sector transformation, financial services sector risks and dependencies on nature and biodiversity, and corporate transition planning in response to EU CSRD and other market and regulatory expectations.

Dr. Barry O'Dwyer, Director, Climate Risk, KPMG Sustainable Futures

Barry has over a decade’s experience in the field of climate change science, with expertise in climate change risk assessment and adaptation.

Barry works with global corporates to meet climate risk requirements of CSRD and EU Taxonomy using KPMGs Climate Vision scenario analysis framework. This work involves asset scale assessment of climate change risks and opportunities across client portfolios.

Barry led the development of the EPA/DECC funded Climate Ireland platform, the nationally recognised resource of climate change and adaptation information. At the request of DECC, Barry authored local and sectoral planning guidelines for climate change risk assessment and adaptation planning.

Dr. James Fitton, Associate Director, Sustainable Futures, KPMG

Dr James Fitton is a climate risk scientist with 10+ years’ experience working in the area of climate change risk and adaptation, spatial analysis and earth observation and joined KPMG Sustainable Futures in November 2022.

In his previous role, as the Lead Researcher for the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Research Group at the SFI-funded Centre for Climate, Energy and Marine at University College Cork, Barry led the development and delivery of nationally and internationally funded climate change research project to a value of more than €2.5 million.

James led the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Research Group at the SFI-Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine (MaREI) in University College Cork (UCC), where he managed the development and delivery of Climate Ireland, Irelands national climate adaptation platform, and supported the development of the Local Authority Climate Action Plan guidance and semi-quantitative risk assessment methods for the Climate Action Regional Offices.

At UCC, James was part of the Met Éireann TRANSLATE project, which aimed to standardise future climate projections for Ireland and develop climate services that meet the climate information needs of decision makers. James has experience working in England, Scotland, Mexico and Denmark on a range of climate change and climate risk projects, including the award-winning Dynamic Coast project to assess current and future coastal erosion and flood risk across Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Padraic Lee, Sustainable Futures, KPMG

Padraic is part of the core team and is a member of the ESG Reporting & Assurance service line in KPMG Ireland. He has worked with a wide variety of clients including those in the Banking, Investment Management, Retail and Property sectors.

Padraic is now a manager in KPMG Ireland’s ESG Reporting & Assurance team and advises clients on numerous ESG reporting requirements including the CSRD, TCFD, GRI, EU Taxonomy and SFDR. He provides formal ESG assurance to a range of clients.

As a Manager, his role involves day-to-day management of technical support to clients during engagements. Padraic is well versed in managing a large team of associates, as well as working with a diverse range of clients across varied technical accounting and assurance challenges. He advises clients on numerous ESG reporting requirements including the CSRD, TCFD, GRI, EU Taxonomy and SFDR. 

Katherine Gillespie, Forensic Accountant, KPMG

Katherine has 19 years’ experience helping clients and their legal advisors address financial, corruption and compliance related issues. Katherine is a forensic accountant and she leads forensic investigations and targeted forensic accounting reviews to increase transparency, monitor compliance, identify financial crime risks and support dispute resolution. She is adept in using financial data to provide insight and clarity in contentious circumstances but also to identify controls issues and recommend improvements.

As part of her role in helping companies prevent economic and financial crimes, Katherine has developed significant expertise in Human Rights Due Diligence and Modern Slavery risk assessments. Katherine led a human rights due diligence project for a prominent Commercial Semi-State. This initiative included the creation of a human rights policy and the design of a human rights due diligence process.

Aisling Garry, Director in KPMG

As a Director in KPMG Law, Aisling qualified as a solicitor in 2013 after having trained with a leading international corporate law firm in Dublin. She worked as a banking lawyer before joining KPMG in 2016. She has a wide range of experience in advising domestic and multinational organisations on corporate law, commercial contracts, banking, corporate restructuring, corporate governance, regulatory and procedural policies.

Aisling possesses deep sectoral knowledge advising international investment funds in relation various projects, including windfarms and windfarm refinancing, purchase of waste management company and energy efficiency home heating schemes. Additionally, Aisling has recently worked as part of a multidisciplinary team to advise large international client of their scoping obligations under CSRD.

Kevin Barry, Sustainable Finance Manager

As manager in KPMG Sustainable Futures, Kevin Barry is a core team member of the Sustainable Finance & Climate Risk Team. Kevin has gained extensive experience across various financial services and corporate sectors, including Sustainable Finance, Climate Risk, Financial Modelling, Investment Management, External Audit, and Assurance.

Kevin possesses deep expertise in European sustainable finance legislation, including the SFDR, CSRD and EU Taxonomy. He collaborated with a major corporation to produce their inaugural TCFD report, which involved conducting a comprehensive analysis of climate risks and opportunities using a variety of scenarios as per TCFD guidelines. This process enabled the quantification of potential impacts and opportunities associated with climate change.

Kevin conducted a Human Rights Risk Assessment for a prominent Irish multinational corporation, evaluating their potential human rights vulnerabilities. In doing so, he developed a risk assessment tool for human rights based on public indexes and in accordance with CSRD guidelines.
