Moderator

Della Hunter, Data Protection Officer in Teagasc, Vice Chair of the Compliance Institute D&I Committee

Della is currently the Data Protection Officer in the semi-state body Teagasc, having completed the MSc in Compliance in 2019 with the Institute of Banking. She is a Fellow of the Compliance Institute and a Certified Data Protection Officer. She has previously held roles in Internal Audit and Risk Management and in Corporate Services in Teagasc. She has a Masters in Public Management from the Institute of Public Administration and in her primary degree, she pursued studies in Law, Sociology and Politics.

She has been passionate about equality since her undergraduate studies and co-leads the Teagasc Diversity and Inclusion Working Group where she led the team in drafting the first Diversity and Inclusion Strategy which was launched in 2020. She is also a member of the Professional Women’s Network (PWN) Dublin branch which is focused on achieving gender balanced leadership through the professional development of its members and in promoting engagement in networking opportunities.

Della has had an article published in the DBS Business Review which is an open access, annual academic journal published by Dublin Business School. In her article, “An Investigation into the Relationship Between Diversity and Compliance in Irish Organisations”, Della’s work sought to discover the extent to which regulatory changes relating to diversity, were being reflected in compliance programmes. Séamus Canning, President, Compliance Institute 

Séamus Canning has worked in the Financial Services for the past 35 years in various roles in the area of insurance claims. Séamus previously worked for an insurer, several loss adjusting companies in Ireland and the UK and latterly as a consultant acting on behalf of the consumer providing assistance with their insurance claims. Séamus is also currently Chair of the Oversight Committee of St. Joseph’s Aviation Credit Union in Dublin Airport.

Séamus is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters. Séamus is an Accredited Mediator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Séamus has an International MBA from DCU and recently obtained a MSc. in Compliance offered by IOB, a recognised college of UCD. Séamus is a Fellow of Compliance Institute (FCI) and is a Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) and Certified Financial Crime Professional (CFCP). Séamus joined Compliance Institute's Council in January 2017.

Fiona Flynn, Founding Director Montauk Consulting, Executive Coach and Facilitator

Fiona is an experienced Senior Manager and Emotional Intelligence coach, Team coach and facilitator.

Fiona has significant experience in building and developing teams to deliver results and growth in market share in a highly competitive fast paced environment, with over 20 years sales and marketing experience, 12 years of which was spent working in the highly competitive telecommunications and internet sectors. Head of Sales at Eircom.net (Irish Telecom Company with revenues of over $2.5billion) Fiona was responsible for development and execution of the sales strategy across all market segments.

Fiona passionately believes that as a leader – creating the right environment, is of paramount importance for a team to flourish and this approach allows each of us to reach our full potential. Fiona's coaching style is an ability to connect with people at a human emotional level, enabling them to develop their awareness and understanding of their behaviours together with the emotions and beliefs that drive them.

She is an accredited Emotional Intelligence coach. She draws upon the following tools and approaches in her coaching:  Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Climate, Transactional Analysis, Strengths based, Neursocience and behaviours, NLP, Personality Profiling, Team Coaching.

Fiona is a passionate and active supporter of entrepreneurs, Women in Business and developing Female talent within organisations. She is President of PWN Dublin (Professional Women’s Network) – a global organsiation supporting Gender Balanced Leadership.

Dermot Kennedy, Head of Operations, Compliance Institute

Dermot is responsible for the day-to-day management of the operating units of the association which consist of Membership Services, Professional Development and Communications. Dermot also plays a key role in ensuring the continued quality and relevance of the Compliance Institute’s Education programmes.

Background: Dermot is an accomplished Director with significant experience in Compliance, Risk and Fraud, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Services management, primarily in the Information Technology and Fintech areas.

He has worked for multinational companies including Amazon, Dell, and Sanmina, and most recently served as CS Director Ireland at Remitly, leading the launch of Remitly’s European operation in Cork, growing the site to 270 team members in just 2 years while ensuring that the activities of REL’s align with regulatory requirements, compliance, local laws, and business requirements.

Dermot is passionate about developing highly scalable standards, policies, procedures, repeatable processes, and methodologies to enable best practices to be standardized across organizations. He holds a Masters in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, Diploma in Fintech, Risk and Compliance, and Six Sigma Black (American Society of Quality) qualification.

Jacquie Ryan, Program Manager, PAT Business School, member of Compliance Institute D&I Committee

Jacquie is the newly appointed Program Manager at PAT Business school. 

Holding a degree in Law and Masters in Journalism Jacquie took the long route to a compliance Career. Her most recent role saw her as a QA Analyst with TransferMate Global Payments. She has interests in all things compliance and has recently completed the Diploma and Bachelors in Fintech Risk and Compliance. 

Highly skilled and detail-oriented AML/KYC Analyst with a strong background in compliance, working in FinTech. A keen eye for identifying potential risks. Adept at conducting thorough due diligence, analyzing complex data, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements. Possesses a deep understanding of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) principles, with a proven track record of successfully implementing compliance measures. Strong communication and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
